Director of Institutional Advancement

The Salina Art Center seeks an energetic and experienced director of institutional advancement to lead the Art Center’s development program. This position reports to and works closely with the executive director to develop strategies to ensure the Art Center’s future success and sustainability. The director of institutional advancement is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of the Art Center’s annual development plan. This includes major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, donor development, grants, membership, fundraising events, corporate sponsorships, and endowment initiatives. This position manages the marketing and membership coordinator and collaborates with other administrative staff to accomplish these responsibilities. The director of institutional advancement is the liaison between the Art Center and the Salina Art Center Endowment Foundation, a separate 501(c)(3) organization. Salary Range 65k-75k.

 

The Salina Art Center is a nonprofit, non-collecting contemporary art museum and education center in Salina, Kansas. Its mission is: "To create exchanges among art, artists, and audiences that reveal life." The Art Center is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and has three distinct facilities: the main building, which houses over 3,300 square feet of galleries and a 2,700 square feet education wing; the Art Center Cinema, a ninety-two-seat film theater; and the Warehouse, a 4,500 square feet living and working space for artists-in-residence. The Art Center's mission is carried out through exhibition, education, film and video, artist, and outreach programs designed to provide constituents with opportunities for meaningful experiences through active encounters with viewing and making visual art.

 

The director of institutional advancement is responsible for:

 

  • Developing, implementing, and managing an annual comprehensive development plan
  • Developing and maintaining organizational case statement
  • Soliciting donors for financial support (individual/family, corporate, and foundations)
  • Cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gifts
  • Overseeing the Art Center’s membership and Annual fund solicitations
  • Developing corporate sponsorship program
  • Developing and overseeing fundraising events
  • Writing and managing grant applications and identifying prospective grants and other sources of funding for Art Center programs
  • Working with the Salina Art Center Endowment Foundation, Salina Art Center Board of Directors and executive director to identify long-term funding priorities and goals
  • Working with Director of Education and Programming to coordinate and facilitate volunteer management and cultivation
  • Managing development staff including Membership and Marketing Coordinator and Design and Communications Coordinator
  • Maintaining accurate donor records and reports in CRM/Salesforce
  • Attending all Board Directors Meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

 

 

The successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred
  • Experience with nonprofit, mission-driven cultural organizations
  • 6-8 years experience in development/fundraising and demonstrated record of closing major gifts in a nonprofit setting
  • Ability to manage support staff and volunteers
  • Computer, database, and desktop publishing skills; experience with CRM software (e.g., Salesforce); experience with social media as a development tool
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Outgoing personality
  • Ability to interact with a broad range of personalities, ages, and backgrounds
  • Passion for the arts and the Art Center’s mission
